English Language

This test would consist of three parts:

Reading – You will be given a sentence in English. Then, you will be asked to read this sentence allowed. They will see if you can read the sentence properly in an appropriate amount of time and also if you can pronounce the words accordingly.

Writing – Someone will dictate a sentence to you in English. You will have to write correct spellings throughout without making many mistakes.

History and Civics

This includes the following parts. 

  • History of the United States, 
  • the Constitution and workings of the US government, 
  • the Bill of Rights, and 
  • civic responsibilities of a citizen of the United States.

This subject is basically to test your knowledge of the history of the United States and the government. Right now, the matter may seem complex to you, but the questions tend to be pretty simple. They can ask you what the supreme law of the land is (The US Constitution) or what the ruling party of the United States called (Democratic Party).

This is done to test your knowledge of aspects like the structure of the government, the responsibilities expected out of you as a citizen and similar things.

The government considers certain applicants who cannot take the test in its complete form due to limitations of age or health may be exempted from the English exam.

  • These applicants have to be more than 50 years old.
  • They should have lived in the United States for 20 years or more than that.
  • For applicants who are 55 years old or older, the process dictates that they need to have lived in the United States for 15 years or more than that.
  • However, they will still be needed to take the civics exam.

The official guide provided by the government provides a certain number of questions marked with a star for people ages 65 and above. That part of the population will only need to study those questions that are marked.
