Texan Woman Sues For Urgent Court Approval For Emergency Abortion
Tuesday saw a Texas woman petitioning the court to grant her an abortion exemption. This interesting development took place amid the state’s stringent regulations. She has requested that there are health risks regarding the unviability of her fetus.
Kate Cox, 20 weeks pregnant, filed a groundbreaking lawsuit in Travis County, Texas District Court against Attorney General Ken Paxton. She requested a temporary restraining order, aiming to permit a doctor to conduct her abortion without facing prosecution. Thus, her petition emphasized on the need for immediate court action.
Cox revealed her that she received a diagnosis of trisomy 18 for the unborn child. It isa typically non-viable condition. Her physicians indicated the baby, if born, might survive only a few days.
Due to two prior Caesarean sections, continuing the pregnancy risks her future fertility.
Thus, this would only lead to a third Caesarean, the lawsuit claims.
The lawsuit mostly talked about Texas’ abortion restrictions. It stated that Cox’s doctors are facing a difficulty with the abortion ban. This situation is leaving her with two distressing options: wait for her baby’s in utero death or carry it to its full term, leading to third C-section.
This would result in her baby’s suffering until its death later. Thus, the lawsuit has emphasized on this heartbreaking scenario due to the state’s ban on abortions.
