Alright, my dear movie buffs, let’s take a quick look into two of the most hyped releases of the year: Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and drumroll, please, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer! Today, we’ll take a quick peek at the man who fascinated the Interstellar maker’s (i.e. Nolan) attention enough to have a whole movie about him. So, buckle up!

Let’s talk about it. This is the movie everyone’s been waiting for! But before we get into that, you must know that a fascinating world of nuclear laws came with the discovery of nuclear weaponry. In the USA and around the world, there are numerous and fascinating nuclear laws that really demand our undivided attention.

A Little About The Father of The Atom Bomb!

Nolan’s amazing new movie is out now, and people have been super excited about it. The movie stars the talented Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, the main character. It’s based on the life of this incredible scientist who made the first atomic bomb for the United States. Nolan got inspiration from different sources to create this epic story, but Oppenheimer’s life and legacy are an important part of our history and even the nuclear laws of the USA.

So, Who Was J Robert Oppenheimer?

Oppenheimer was born Julius Robert Oppenheimer on April 22, 1904. He greatly impacted the world as one of the most influential scientists. He led the team that developed the first-ever atomic bomb in the world during World War II. Remember Hiroshima Nagasaki, right? He was the scientific director of the Manhattan Project. But his contributions to physics and scientific research go beyond that.

What Was His Early Life Like?

Oppenheimer came from a wealthy Jewish family who lived in New York City. Even when he was young, he was really smart. He attended the Ethical Culture School in New York. It was here that he fell in love with science and literature.

What Was His Education?

You could’ve guessed it. He went to Harvard University and started studying chemistry. Later he switched to physics. After finishing his undergraduate studies, he attended the University of Cambridge in England. There, he had the opportunity to work with famous physicists like JJ Thomson.

How Did Oppenheimer Create the Atomic Bomb?

Oppenheimer is known as the father of the atomic bomb. It all went down during World War II. Oppenheimer was in charge of a special project called the Manhattan Project.

The Manhattan Project was a top-secret mission to develop the atomic bomb. Oppenheimer led a team of top-notch scientists who worked day and night to make it happen. They wanted to give the United States a powerful weapon that could end the war.

The project took a lot of time and effort. Oppenheimer and his team had to do tons of experiments and calculations. And eventually, they figured out how to split tiny atoms and release a massive amount of energy. That is how the father of the nuclear bomb and his team successfully created the first atomic bomb. They completed the bomb on July 16, 1945. They tested it in a place called the Trinity Test in New Mexico. On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped the atomic bomb called “Little Boy” on Hiroshima in Japan.

The World of Nuclear Laws: It All Began with Oppenheimer.

So, after the team created the atomic bomb during World War II, everyone realized nuclear weapons were very important. They also needed some serious regulations around it.

Countries soon met and made agreements to stop more countries from getting their hands on nukes. They even signed several treaties to make sure nuclear weapons do not spread like wildfire.

Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

One of the big treaties is the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. They came up with this in 1968 to stop the spread of nuclear arms, promote disarmament, and make sure nuclear energy is used for peaceful purposes. The USA was also one of the major signees.

Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START)

They also made treaties to limit and reduce nuclear weapons. These are called arms control treaties. An example is the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) between the USA and Russia.

Finally! USA Nuclear Laws

The USA has its own laws to keep nuclear weaponry in check. They cover things like making and having nuclear materials, how to transport them, and the rules for running nuclear power plants.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is the agency in charge of keeping things in line when it comes to nuclear laws in the USA. They make sure nuclear facilities and materials are safe and secure.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is like the global watchdog for nuclear energy. They help countries use nuclear technology safely and make sure everyone’s playing by the rules. The USA works with them too.

Some parts of the world, like Latin America and the South Pacific, decided they didn’t want any nuclear weapons around at all. So, they made treaties to create nuclear-free zones, keeping those areas safe from nuclear weapons.

The USA and other countries are doing their best to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. They use diplomacy, export controls, and work with other countries to ensure everyone’s behaving responsibly regarding nuclear weapons.

Nuclear weapons are still a major concern, even with all these rules and agreements. We need to keep working on preventing the spread of nukes and finding ways to get rid of them. It’s an ongoing battle.

So, this is how atomic bomb plays into the scene. Hope you enjoy the movie!
